CaptionSmith ("we," "our," or "the app") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our iOS and macOS applications.
Information We Collect
Photos and Images
- CaptionSmith accesses photos you explicitly select for caption generation
- Photos are processed temporarily to generate AI-powered captions
- We do not store, upload, or retain copies of your photos on our servers
- Photos are sent directly to third-party AI providers (see below) for processing and are subject to their privacy policies
API Keys (Power Users)
- If you choose to use your own API keys, they are stored securely in your device's Keychain
- API keys are never transmitted to our servers
- API keys are only used to authenticate with your chosen AI provider
Usage Data
- We track the number of captions generated for subscription and trial limit purposes
- This count is stored locally on your device
Purchase Information
- All purchases are processed through Apple's App Store
- We do not collect or store payment information
- Purchase status is verified through Apple's StoreKit framework
Third-Party AI Services
CaptionSmith uses the following third-party AI services to generate captions. When you generate a caption, your selected photo is sent to one of these services:

- To AI service providers as necessary to generate captions (as described above)
- To comply with legal obligations if required by law
Your Rights
- You can delete your API keys at any time in Settings
- You can delete the app to remove all locally stored data
- You can revoke photo library access in iOS/macOS Settings
Children's Privacy
CaptionSmith is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date.
